Founded on August 23, 1999, UNISEL is the first state-funded semi-government university in Malaysia. Its goal is to provide higher education and research and development opportunities in a wide range of areas of industrial technology, management and information and communication technology.
It operates from a temporary campus in Shah Alam. Its main campus is located in the town of Bestari Jaya, about 50 km from the federal capital Kuala Lumpur. It was completed in 2005. UNISEL now operates on the Shah Alam and Bestari Jaya campuses.
Selangor University (abbreviation: UNISEL; Malay: Universiti Selangor) is a university independently owned and managed by the Selangor State Government - no funding from the Malaysian federal government (hence the “private” rather than the “public” university). It is in Malaysia. The two campuses in Selangor operate.
